NCAA and Varsity Sports Played by Less Than 10 Top Colleges

A total of 6 men’s NCAA sports and a total of 8 women’s NCAA and varsity sports are each played by less than 10 of the highly selective colleges. These sports include alpine skiing, nordic skiing, archery, beach volleyball, bowling, equestrian, gymnastics, indoor track, rifle and rugby.

Collectively, these sports at the highly selective colleges are represented by a total of 1,190 athletes, 767 of whom are women athletes and 423 of whom are men.

Each of these sports provide athlete recruitment opportunities at the highly selective colleges that play them even though the choices of college for those athlete recruits are limited. Each of the college’s athlete recruitment practices in these sports will depend on whether the college is in NCAA Division 1 or NCAA Division 3. The NCAA athlete recruitment rules and calendar will apply to these sports as well and aspiring athlete recruits must become familiar with these rules.
